England openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales created history by smashing the highest opening stand in the T20 World Cup. While people on Twitter shared memes after India lost against England in the semi-finals, a few big brands also took to their official social media handles to take team India’s case.
India lost to England
Indian cricket team lost to England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup in what came as a huge 10-wicket beating. Rohit Sharma and Co. has now crashed out of the World Cup and the final will be played between England and Pakistan on Sunday, November 13.
England openers Jos Butler and Alex Hales smashed Indian bowlers, chasing the target of 169 in just 16 overs. While people on Twitter had shared memes on the same, a few big brands also took to their official social media handles to take team India’s case.
The England pair’s partnership passed the previous highest opening stand at a Men’s T20 World Cup, 152 between Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, also made against India, in 2021. Highlighting the easy with which England won the match, the Guinness World Records’ official Twitter handle shared a cheeky post.

“Easiest run chase in history?” the record keeping organisation tweeted.

The winning runs took the English pair to an even bigger record. Their combined 170 is now the highest partnership for any wicket at any ICC T20 World Cup.
The record of 166 between Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara had stood for 12 years before Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw of South Africa surpassed it by two runs against Bangladesh earlier in this tournament. But De Kock and Rossouw’s stay at the top lasted just two weeks.
Myntra, India’s biggest online fashion brand also shared an image of what they called KL Rahul’s T-shirt. “Out of this world,” read the T-shirt. This came in as KL Rahul scored 5 runs in 5 balls and got out in the second over. Many fans, however, did not like this mocking of an Indian player and came forward in his support.
