A 10-year-old boy from the UK has raised over £75,000 (Rs 71 lakhs) for a health care centre by spending more than 200 days in a tent that was given to him by his dying friend.
Max Woosey was given a tent by his friend and neighbour Rick just before he passed away. Although the age difference between Max and Rick was more than 64 years, they enjoyed each other company very much.
Rick had told Max to have an adventure with the tent. So, he came up with the idea of raising money for charity in his memory.
According to reports, Max has gone on to spend more than 200 nights and days inside the tent. By doing so, he has raised for more £75,000 (Rs 71 lakhs) for the North Devon Hospice, where Rick and his wife, Sue, were cared for in their final days.
“It feels amazing, it’s unbelievable really. It will be used for equipment and stuff like that to help other people and people who really need it. They helped my friends Rick and Sue who unfortunately passed away, but they don’t just help the people who are ill they help the family and friends get through it as well,” Max was quoted by LadBible.
Max started his tent adventure on 28 Match and has spent most of the lockdown period inside it. He apparently only goes into his house for meals, school lessons, and to wash.
He wants to keep this up for an entire year.
“It’s absolutely incredible, it’s bonkers – he set the goal of £100 and we thought we’d have to top him up to that. There have been many local donations, but it came from further afield too – I think there’s something in the story which has touched people.” said Max’s mother.
Max has had to change several tents because of rain and waterproofing problems. He is currently using his fifth tent.
