Former Indian captain MS Dhoni called time on his glorious international career after representing the nation for 16 years via an Instagram post on Saturday (August 15). One of the greatest of all-time, Dhoni remains the only captain in the world to have won all major ICC trophies – ICC T20 World Cup (2007), ODI World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy in 2013.
Wishes started pouring in for the wicket-keeper batsman, who will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Several cricketers took to social media to pay tribute to the India legend after his decision to retire from the game. Dhoni has been an inspiration for several Indian cricketers, who he mentored during his career and millions of budding cricketers across the country.
Dhoni’s former India teammate Gautam Gambhir also took to Twitter to bid a farewell to the former Indian captain. Gambhir was part of the 2011 and 2007 World Cup-winning sides under Dhoni and played an instrumental role in India’s triumphs. Gambhir welcomed Dhoni to the other side of life and said the new phase will be as interesting as his cricketing career.
“From “India A” to “The India” our journey has been full of question marks, commas, blanks & exclamations. Now as you put a full stop to your chapter, I can tell u from experience that the new phase is as exciting and there’s no limit to DRS here!!! Well played @msdhoni,” Gambhir tweeted for Dhoni.

Dhoni is currently in Chennai where he will be taking part in a training camp ahead of the new season of IPL which will be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He last played for India in the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup last year, against New Zealand following which he had opted for a self-imposed sabbatical from the game amid intense speculations over his future.
