In a surprise move, South superstar Rajnikanth said that he does not want to become the Chief Minister. He rather likes to continue being the chief of his party Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM).
Rajni is not interested to become CM
According to the sources, Rajni attended a district secretaries’ meeting, where he discussed having someone else becoming the Chief Minister instead of him after the 2021 Assembly elections.
Soon after his declaration, there was a lot of debate from the district secretaries and they all refused to accept this proposal from their leader.
“He said he will be the party leader, but someone else can be the chief minister. We were shocked, and objected it,” said an RMM functionary.
Rajinikanth is assumed to have said this because he wants to work for the well-being of the people and he would not hold any government positions as Chief Minister.
When the media asked him about his surprise statement, the actor told journalists that he was disappointed over one thing during his interaction with the functionaries.
“I had a nice meeting with the district secretaries. They are also satisfied. We discussed many issues. I am disappointed about one thing. I shall tell when the time comes,” said Rajnikanth.
The meeting
After the meeting was concluded, Rajni had asked the district functionaries to take an oath that they would not say a word to anyone, not even to their spouses about what was discussed in the meeting. If they did, it would amount to betraying him.
It is said that this gathering was a review meeting on the performance of the group, which was built a few years ago after his famous fan club was scattered across the state following his decision to enter politics.
Rajinikanth has declared that he would launch his party ahead of the assembly elections, expected in 2021. Replying to a question if he and Kamal Haasan were trying to fill in the void left by J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi, he said, “Only time will tell.”
Both Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan have expressed readiness to work together and are operating to fill the void left by the top leaders.
