The Delhi government has now decided to suspend all the ‘non-essential’ public services from 20th March until 31st March. The employees ‘non-essential’ public services will work from home while the ‘essential’ services will continue to function. The distinction between the essential and non-essential will be announced on Friday.
In a joint meeting involving top government officials, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the lieutenant governor Anil Baijal, a detailed presentation of the current status of the city was presented by the health department. A string of announcements was made soon after the meeting.
Anil Baijal announced that the orders are given to the concerned authorities to conduct thermal screenings of every individual entering public places. The traffic police are also directed to stop the breath analyzer tests. Hotels that have the quarantine facilities are asked to waive off the tax on rooms.
Arvind Kejriwal later briefed the media on the status of quarantine facilities as a total of 768 quarantine beds are currently installed across the city. Addressing the reports of people escaping quarantine facilities, the Chief Minister strictly conveyed that actions will be taken against those who fail to co-ordinate with the officials and on those who violate the protocols.
Everything Shut Down Till 31st of March
He also announced that all restaurants will be closed across the city as a preventive measure till the last day of the month. However, he clarified that home-deliveries and takeaways will continue like before. The restriction on all educational institutions is also extended until the 31st of March.
The Chief Minister also appealed to senior citizens to stay indoors as they are more vulnerable and also extended the appeal to youngsters to stay at home as much as possible. He urged the private sector to provide work from home facilities to its employees. He also advised people against panic buying as he ensured that the supply of essential commodities will not be paused.
Along with all this, the Lieutenant Governor directed the officials to explore possibilities of having a mobile van that would go around residential areas and supply the essential commodities at the doorstep of the citizens. As of today, Delhi has a total of 17 active cases.
