Supreme Court has recently lashed out the Kejriwal government for witnessing the fact that covid 19 patients in Delhi hospitals are being treated worse than animals, as their dead bodies are being found in garbage.
Supreme Court mentions that the Government hospitals in Delhi are not taking proper responsibility of the dead bodies. Neither the families of the patients are being informed about deaths nor being able to attend the last rites.
Supreme Court issues notices to State Governments including that of Delhi and also Delhi’s LNJP hospital seeking reply on the matter. Moreover, the court has asked the Chief Secretaries of States to look into the situation of patient management system and submit appropriate status report.
Justice Shah observed, “If dead bodies are being treated like this, bodies are being found in garbage…People are being treated worse than animals”. Supreme Court posts the matter for hearing on Wednesday, next week.
India continues to witness a surge in the number of cases and deaths due to the novel Coronavirus infection and hospitals are finding it hard to deal with the dead bodies. On Friday, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded 297,535 cases and 8,498 deaths due to Covid-19. Metropolitan cities such as Delhi and Mumbai continue to be worst-hit from the pandemic, being at a current count of 34,687 and 97,648 confirmed cases respectively, and looking at these numbers, lack of health infrastructure creates more problems for patients, both at the initial and serious stages who are looking out for a much needed cure.
Experts have warned that a second wave of infections is underway and this will be stronger than the first one. India currently is the fourth worst-hit nation from Covid-19.
