Complaint Against A Man For Calling Aditya Thackeray As ‘Baby Penguin’, FIR Filed

A case of obscenity and defamation has been filed and registered against a person called Sameet Thakkar for his alleged derogatory remark against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray.

According to VP Road Police, Sameet Thakkar shared a photo on his Twitter account on the 1st of July where he referred Aditya Thackeray to Mohammad Azam Saha of Maharashtra and went onto call them baby penguin. He also referred Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray as Modern-day Aurangazeb. According to the complaint filed against Thakkar, he also tweeted against Raut. The complainant, the head of Yuva Sena legal Dharmendra Mishra said,

“It is not the first time Thakkar has used derogatory language against the state leaders. So I decided to lodge a complaint against him and approached the VP Road police. When I checked his Twitter profile, I was shocked to find that he is being followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it is unfortunate if the Prime Minister follows such persons.”

After the complaint, VP Road Police registered an offense under the Indian Penal Code sections of 292 obscenity, 500 defamation, and 67 of the Information Technology Act. The police have issued a notice to him.

After this Sameet Thakkar deleted his tweets and put out a statement that he will abide by the law. Many Twitter netizens came in support of him and questioned the freedom of speech in the state of Maharashtra. Many users took to Twitter to repeatedly refer to Aditya Thackeray as a baby penguin. Some called upon stand up comedians to react and prove they are not a hypocrite.

While there have been multiple complaints against Thakkar, there is no action taken against him as of now. Thakkar too has not yet reacted legally against the complaint.
