Chamarajanagara SP Forces Temple Priest To Perform Pooja For Jesus Photo, Twitter Outrages

Anjaneya Temple

In a shocking incident coming from the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, a Superintendent of Police has allegedly pressurized the priests of a local Hindu temple to have a photo of Jesus and Mary inside the temple’s Garbagriha.

On August 5th, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other affiliated groups had organized a special pooja in the local Anjaneya Swamy temple in the district. The pooja was in accordance with the historic event in Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

Post the pooja, the Superintendent of Police Divya Sara Thomas visited the temple and allegedly forced the priests present in the temple to place a photo of Jesus and Mary. The photos were brought in by the officer. She also made sure the priest places the photo inside the sanctum of the temple.

Priest Apologies

However, the priest was reluctant initially but due to the pressure, the priest succumbed and placed the photo inside the sanctum and performed the pooja. The pictures of the same have been viral on the internet. This has angered several Hindus who have demanded action against the police officer and asked for sacking the officer.

The priest, on the other hand, has apologized for the incident and said that they did not have intentions to hurt any religion. He said,

“On August, on the occasion of Ayodhya Bhoomi Pujan event, there was a special pooja. We performed pooja by placing photos of a different faith. There is no evil intentions or any attempt to hurt any religious sentiments. It is a routine activity, where we pray for people irrespective of their identity.”
