Cancer, a terrifying disease that is known to kill people has always scared us. It is a battle where one has to deal with self and ulterior pressures come with it. But these are Indian celebrities, the heroes who inspire us to stay on the battlefield of life and come out victorious.
Rakesh Roshan
A famous detector who gave us films like ‘Kishan Kanhaiya’ ‘Karan Arjun’ ‘Kaho Na pyar hai’, ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ and ‘Krish ’ a superhero series. He is recently diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma a type of throat cancer is undergoing the treatment. The family already has a cancer survivor. Hrithik Roshan’s sister Sunaina Roshan has fought cervical cancer and survive it.
2. Sonali Bendre
She was diagnosed with metastatic cancer has returned to India after battling an aggressive form of cancer. The 43-year actress has documented her cancer journey for months on social media. She has received support from everywhere for encouraging people to fight the battle.
3. Irfan Khan
Irfan Khan is an actor who is a global star and splendid performer. He is known for his performance in Oscar-winner film Slumdog Millionaire and blockbuster Jurassic World was diagnosed with cancer. He is undergoing treatment in London for a neuroendocrine tumour, a rare form of cancer. But he is still working and was seen in the movie Karwaan.
4. Manisha Koirala
A fabulous actress who gave super hits like ‘Bombay’ ‘Dil Se’ ‘Lajja’was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She went through multiple surgeries and chemo. She came out like a hero in the year 2015 after battling with cancer. She is now actively working to create cancer awareness.
5. Anurag Basu
Anurag Basu Identified as the director of Barfi and gangster has suffered from acute promyelocytic leukaemia – a type of blood cancer. He was told by doctors that he has two months to live when he was filming ‘Tumsa Nahin Dekha’. But the verdict didn’t shake him and he completed the film from his hospital bed. He even wrote scripts for ‘Life in a Metro’ and ‘Gangster’ during his treatment period. He treated cancer as if it was a normal cold and cough.
6. Lisa Ray
She was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer known as myeloma. In 2010 she announced that she had a stem cell replacement and was cancer free. But she is not fully cured as the disease s treatable but not curable and she is undergoing regular check-ups.
7. Mumtaaz
Beautiful Bollywood actress who is known for her charismatic performance in movies like Do Raste, khilona, Upaasna was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 54. But she ensured that disease should not get better of her. She fought with the disease for more than a decade. She then participated in documentary o cancer survival known as 1 minute.
8. Yuvraj Singh
We all know who Yuvraj is. He was diagnosed with a malignant tumour called extragonadal seminoma which is very rare. After his successful battle with cancer, he wrote about the experience of his struggle in the book ‘The Test of My Life.’ He has also made his comeback to cricket by playing Twenty20 match against New Zealand after his cancer. He is a real-life hero who inspired each one of us.
9. Gautami Tadimalla
Gautami Tadimalla who is prominently known in South Indian movies had to struggle with breast cancer. But she overcame the disease and made a return to films subsequently. She now actively participates in several cancer-related awareness programs and continues to share her experiences. She is spreading awareness and helping people fight the battle.
10. Innocent Vareed Thekkethala
Very well known personality of Malayalam film industry and President of Kerala film association (AMMA), has tickled our funny bones in Malayalam cinema with his outstanding performance. He was diagnosed with throat cancer. He successfully won over his disease and also won 2014 Lok Sabha elections as a member of Parliament from Chalakudy constituency.
