In the list that includes 1000 cities from 100 countries in the world, Bengaluru and New Delhi were among the top 20 best cities for startups. The list created by StartupBlink Startup Ecosystem Ranking lists Moscow in the 10th spot making it the topmost Asian city in the world for startups.
Bengaluru Surpasses Tokyo And Paris To Move On 11th Position
The last ranking was conducted in 2017 in which Moscow was at the 14th position whereas Bengaluru was on 21st position. Moscow moved from14th to 10th and Bengaluru progressed to 11th position surpassing international big cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Paris.
Incidentally, San Francisco has been ranked as the best city in the world for startups after being the highest rated American city on the rankings of world liveability.
San Francisco is followed by New York and London at number two and three respectively. Other Indian cities apart from Bengaluru to get a place in the top 100 include New Delhi (14), Mumbai (29), Chennai (74), and Hyderabad (75). Both Chennai and Hyderabad moved more than 100 positions upwards from the 2017 listing to get ranking in 100 best cities for startups for this year.
Moscow And Topmost Indian Cities Should Share Experience, Says Shaumyan
According to the statistics, expert and analytical information provided by the Moscow Agency of Innovations, as of now, more than 4,500 startup companies are operating in the capital city of Russia.
The CEO of Moscow Agency of Innovations, Alexei Parabuchev said, “Moscow boasts a developed innovation ecosystem, which is growing rapidly.”
The Head of Smart City Department, Moscow, Eduard Lysenko said, “It’s not only about the number of startups. Moscow is creating favorable conditions for developing technology at large.”
Shaumyan, the Head of Center for Indian Studies of Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Tatiana thinks that both the Russian and Indian cities should share their experience from the field of technology and innovation.
She said, “Moscow and Bangalore shall be proud of going head-to-head in such a prestigious rating. Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad are one of the centers of the high technology industry. I am sure that Moscow is willing to share the experience with Indian cities.”
Rating Aims To Identify Cities With Strongest Startup Ecosystems
The rating has been created by evaluating IT data from accelerators, startups, and coworking spaces that have been registered on the IT platforms. They aim to identify those cities that have the strongest startup ecosystems.
While ranking the cities, the rating methodology takes into consideration infrastructure, number and quality of startups, public support for innovative technology and business climate.
The last StartupBlink Startup Ecosystem Ranking was released in November 2017. The next report will be published in April 2020.
