In a viral Reddit post, a Bengaluru landlord claimed that a tenant trashed the entire flat before leaving. Twitter has mixed reactions.
Bachelor ‘Trashes’ Flat
Finding a place to rent as a bachelor is indeed a difficult task as landlords prefer letting out their house to families, but there is also another side to the story. A man shared on Twitter photos of a flat that had been let out to a bachelor in Bengaluru and how it was wrecked and left in a despicable condition.
Ravi Handa, a podcast host, shared the photos, which he claimed were obtained from Reddit. He claimed that the flat was left in this condition by an “educated bachelor” who worked for a multinational corporation.
According to News 18, the tenant paid the rent for 3-4 months, after which he vanished and then called to say that he needed to vacate the home and wanted the security deposit back. After finding the tenant reluctant in handing over the flat properly, the landlord went to visit the flat and found the whole place wrecked. The windows were open, causing pigeons to come in and defecate; there were liquor bottles everywhere; and a dirty mattress lying on the floor. The kitchen and toilet also seemed to be festering.
“This is why people don’t like renting to bachelors. An “educated” bachelor working in a “large MNC” did this in Bangalore. Got these pics from Reddit,” Handa shared.

People, however, pointed out that an unfair generalization about bachelors was being made. Many people also suggested that the cleaning fees be deducted from the landlord’s deposit.

It's a rare case, 98% of bachelors clean up after themselves.

I have 5 studio apartments which I rent out irrespective of marital status, gender or religion .
I have a good legal contract and a security deposit which is only returned after a thorough inspection of the apartment for damages and cleanliness.
It’s been 8 years and I haven’t…

One off case. Also all homeowners deduct 1 month rent for painting and cleaning charges.

I am legit disgusted at the lack of hygiene in this man!

What if I tell you that in most cases this happens coz the landlord has already decided to deduct an exorbitant amount of money from the deposit. https://t.co/PArAdAYqaP pic.twitter.com/7wo8QESJc0

I have rent out my property to bachelor’s. As part of lease agreement we put a clause that deep cleaning by professionals has to be done once a year and also on exit at the cost of tenant.

All this place needs is a clean up which is easily affordable with the interest your deposit must have earned or the one month rent that you deduct. https://t.co/B40p0mhpB0

We shouldn't be generalizing.
I have leased my flat to a bachelor and he has kept the house so neatly???.
Before him, i had leased it to a family. When they left, the house was a mess with all walls scribbled.?
Everyone has a different experience.
