Bad Time For China: Lawmakers From Eight Countries Form An Alliance To Counter China’s Attrocities

Senior lawmakers from eight countries are coming together as they launched a new alliance which will now counter China’s growing influence in the global trade. The alliance also includes the United States.

While the United States was struggling to crack an alliance to resist the Chinese monopoly on the global market and its actions during the COVID-19 pandemic and in Hong Kong, the inter-parliamentary alliance was launched on Friday. The alliance will not only counter Chinese influence on global trade but also on security and Human Rights. The main of the group as it claims is,

“To construct appropriate and coordinated responses, and to help craft a proactive and strategic approach on issues related to the People’s Republic of China.”

China asks not to use politics for selfish reasons

The co-chairpersons of the newly formed alliance include the United States Republican Senator Marco Rubio, Democrat Bob Menendez, former Japanese defense minister Gen Nakatani, European parliament foreign affairs committee member Miriam Lexmann and the prominent United Kingdom conservative lawmaker Iain Duncan Smith. Senator Rubio who has been a vocal critic of Beijing and has continuously lend his support to the United States legislation that targets China has claimed that the Communist regime in China poses a global challenge.

However, Beijing has maintained that the situation in Hong Kong is an internal matter and also it poses no threat to the world. The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson addressed a briefing and said,

“We urge a small number of politicians to respect facts, respect the basic rules of international relations, abandon a Cold War mentality, stop interfering in domestic affairs, and making political moves for selfish interests.”

The alliance said that often many countries who have stood up to the Chinese rule-based order have done it at a great cost and hence the alliance was much needed. The alliance includes the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Norway, and also the members of the European Parliament.

The Trump administration has repeatedly attempted to rewrite a new bilateral relationship with China which has only expanded the trade war which now has a global consequence. Recently, the United States journalists have been ejected from China.
