
On Sunday, the state of Karnataka reported 176 new cases of the novel coronavirus taking the state’s tally past 7,000. At the same time, 5 deaths were reported on Sunday.
The first case in the state was recorded on the 9th of March the city of Bengaluru and up until the end of the third lockdown, the numbers were around 600 marks. As people from other states started to come in, the number of cases soared like never before. It has now bought the tally to a grim figure of 7,000. The death toll has reached 86. Meanwhile, on Sunday, 312 people were discharged from the hospital after they recovered completely from COVID-19. The number of active cases in the city stands at 2,956. Among the active cases, 16 of them are in the intensive care unit.
The city of Bengaluru reported 42 new cases on Sunday and thereby the number of active cases in the city rose to 330. Bengaluru has 327 discharges so far but the worrying factor for the city, however, is that it has recorded 32 deaths. The fatality rate in the city is 4.64%. With that, the number of active containment zones in the city also rose to 142 on Sunday. The fatality rate of the Karnataka State is 1.23% and the recovery rate is health at 56.50%.
Karnataka Is The Top State In Conducting Average Tests Of Contacts
The researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research conducted a study across the country and found that Karnataka is at the top of the list when it is about testing the contacts of COVID-19 positive person. Karnataka has an average of 93 tests conducted against the national average of 20. The worst affected states in the country, Delhi and Maharashtra, have dismal numbers as they have conducted only 8 or 9 average contacts.
Even as the city of Bengaluru has been able to contain the spread up to 690, the fatality rate has been a cause of major concern among the health department officials.
On the other hand, the tally of India crossed the 3 lakh mark and is currently at 3,32,559 positive cases out of which 1,53,316 have successfully recovered leaving 1,69,683 cases actively. The death tally also passed the 9,000 mark.
