As Avani Creates History In Paralympics,See What Anand Mahindra Has To Offer

A Significant performance has been showcased by our country’s very own Avani Lekhara in the Tokyo Paralympics.She has scripted history by winning the historic gold in the SH1 rifle shooting of 10m.She becomes the fourth Indian and first woman to win gold in Paralympics for the country.

Avani Lekhara Shines With Gold

Avani is just 19 years old, and the history has been created by her at such a young age.She competed in SH1 category, in which shooters are able to hold a gun with their arms. The athletes have an impairment in their legs, for example amputations or paraplegia. Some athletes can compete in a seated position, while others can compete in a standing position as well.

This wonderkid created a world record with equalling total of 249.6, which is also a new Paralympic record.After other three men from India in early editions of Paralympics,Avani has won this shining gold. Avani hails from Jaipur,Rajasthan; where she met with a car accident in 2012, which eventually resulted in a severe spinal cord injury.

Anand Mahindra Announced A Special Gift For The Champion

As wishes poured in from all quarters, industrialist Anand Mahindra announced a special gift for the champion. In a tweet, the Chairman of the Mahindra Group announced that the company will dedicate its “first-ever customised sport utility vehicle (SUV) for those with disabilities” to shooter Avani Lekhara.

 

Sharing the news on Twitter, Anand Mahindra said that the idea for such a vehicle was presented to the automobile industry by the President of the Paralympic Committee of India – Deepa Malik. The purpose of the SUV would be to make travelling by road a comfortable and easy experience for people with special abilities.

Apart from this victory,Indian discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya also clinched a silver medal in the men’s F56 event. He sent the disc to a best distance of 44.38m in his sixth and last attempt to clinch the silver.
