Yet another case of forced conversion has been reported in Pakistan, where a Hindu teenage girl was kidnaped during her wedding ceremony and was forced to marry a Muslim man after being converted to Islam.
Forced conversion
According to the source, the marriage ceremony was underway when the kidnapper named Shahrukh Memon came with several men along with policemen and took the girl away in large daylight.
The general secretary of All Pakistan Hindu Panchayat, Ravi Dawani informed that it was the third case in less than two weeks of Hindu girls being targeted, which included a 15-year-old girl from Sindh who was kidnapped on January 15 and converted to Islam.
He said that the Hindu Panchayat encouraged the girl’s family to approach the police, who sent a team to Karachi to bring her back to Sindh. It was then she was presented in a Hala court on Monday, but it wasn’t directly known whether action had been ordered against those accused of kidnapping her.
Hindu girl targeted every week
Abduction and conversion of Hindu women have been a major problem in Sindh province where the majority of Pakistani Hindus live. While three-four non-Muslim girls have been converted to Islam in the last three months, many cases of conversion do not get published.
According to a report, every year around 1,000 non-Muslim girls between the age of 12 and 28 in Sindh province are kidnaped, converted to Islam and married off to Muslims.
Dawani further claimed that there had been attacks on the Hindu community quite often. He said that unidentified people recently vandalized the Mata Rani temple at Chachro in Tharparkar district of Sindh.
