Amitabh Bachchan To Be Honoured With Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Says He Is Humbled And Grateful

Bollywood Shehensha Amitabh Bachchan will be honored this year with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The Big B will be presented this award for his enormous contribution to the world of cinema for over decades.

Known as the highest award in cinema, Amitabh Bachchan will be honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. The actor will receive a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. Indian Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar announced this news on Twitter. He tweeted, “The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and the international community are happy. My heartiest congratulations to him.”

The highest award in cinema Dadasaheb Phalke award was started by the government in 1969 to commemorate the “father of Indian cinema” who directed Raja Harischandra (1913), India’s first feature film. The first award was given to “the first lady of Indian cinema”, Devika Rani.

Amitabh Bachchan and decades of hard work

Surprisingly, the award itself was first presented in the year of Mr. Bachchan’s debut. Amitabh Bachchan made his Bollywood debut with the first film Saat Hindustani. Anand, Zanjeer, Sholay, Agneepath, Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie, Silsila, Black, Sarkar, Paa and Piku were also the popular movies that earned him names and kept on entertaining his fans with varied roles.

After this announcement was made the actor himself responded on receiving the honor. Amitabh wrote on Twitter that he was “humbled” and “grateful” on receiving the award. He said, “There is a paucity of words searching a response .. for the generosity of words that pour in.. I am but deeply grateful and most humbled .. my sincerest gratitude.”
