
In a major overdue, a biopic on the life of Karnataka’s first Rashtrakavi late M Govinda Pai is on the works after an announcement was made by actor Raghu Bhat who has also said will produce the film.
The makers of the film had initially planned to announce and launch the film on the 23rd of March that happens to be the birth anniversary of Govinda Pai but the coronavirus pandemic pushed the things. Actor Raghu Bhat also hails from the same region as Govinda Pai and has revealed that he wants to make this film as a tribute to the late poet for his immense contribution to the Kannada literary world.
As per the team, the pre-production work of the film had been completed. However, the lead actor who will portray Govinda Pai on the screen is yet to be finalized. The team including Raghu Bhat is hopeful of roping in one of the lead actors from the Kannada film industry to essay the life of the iconic poet.
Major Sandalwood Names To Be Involved
On the front of the crew, noted journalist Ganesh Kasargod has penned the story and screenplay. According to the team, many noted and well-known names from the industry are likely to join the team soon.
Born in the South Kanara district of the then Madras Province, M Govinda Pai was the first poet from Karnataka to be given the title of Rashtrakavi. On his 125th birth anniversary, a national award was instituted on his name. His old house in his hometown Majeshwar has been included as a national monument. He was also acknowledged by the government of Kerala and a college was created after his name.
There hasn’t been a biopic on a writer in the Kannada Film Industry yet. It will be interesting to see how Raghu Bhat and the team will create the life of the celebrated poet on screen.
