“In Future, Bollywood films will only come in OTT, South will rule theaters”: Naseeruddin Shah

Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah says one of the biggest strengths of commercial movies from Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu film industries is ‘originality’. The actor thinks that these film industries always aim for showcasing something creative and this is also a reason why they have been always successful.

‘South films are innovative’

The 72-year-old said the filmmakers from the South are innovative even in the way they shoot their song sequences, making them grand, spectacle, and rarely ordinary. It is their need for aiming bigger and better which is the reason why South films have been doing better than “most of the Hindi cinema.” Reported Indian Express.

Aditi Rao Hydari, who was with Naseeruddin Shah for an interview with Indian Express, was asked if Hindi filmmakers have not been able to make the most of her talent as those in the South.

To this, the actress said, “I have heard this too much, a lot!.” In between this, her co-star of Taj – Divided by Blood Naseeruddin Shah intervened and said, “Maybe because Tamil and Malayalam makers are more intelligent…someone like Aditi has no reason to worry, sooner or later they will come to their senses here.”

Notably, Aditi who made her debut with the Malayalam film Prajapathi in the year 2006 enjoys a massive fanbase and she also worked in the Bollywood industry by being a part of films like Padmaavat, Delhi, Rockstar, and among others. However, she did not get multiple chances in Hindi Cinema as compared to the South.

Why South film Industry is better?

The Hindi film industry had a poor 2022, with only a few films doing well at the box office. This year, however, started on a high note with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan doing historic business. Taking a dig at Bollywood veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah said the Hindi Filmmakers are less imaginative.

“Even the commercial movies made in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu are imaginative. They are original. They may be crass in their taste, but the performance is always flawless. So, I really think South Indian films work harder and it is no mystery why their films are doing better than most of the Hindi cinema,” he said.

On the work front Shah will be next seen in ZEE5’s original series Taj – Divided by Blood, as King Akbar. The veteran told the publication that whether one likes it or not, streaming platforms are the future of entertainment. Shah, who has been acting on screen for nearly 50 years now, said he can see a future where cinema halls are wiped out.
