In the list of Top 5 Indian movies of 2022, Anupama Chopra decides to keep away Yash starrer KGF Chapter 2. Find out which movies made it to the top 5 spots.
Top 5 Indian movies of 2022
2022 has been the year when Indian cinema became a lot more globally popular than it already was. While Bollywood, the Hindi film industry, had a rough year, a number of Pan India films caught audiences off guard and were huge box office smashes. From unique content to exciting storylines, numerous attributes have been given to the rise of non-Hindi films at the box office.
The Covid-19 pandemic nearly brought the Indian film industry to the ground, however, it blossomed in 2022 with several blockbuster films like RRR, K.G.F: Chapter 2, Vikram, and Kantara.
As 2022 is coming to an end, Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra shares the list of the best 5 India Films that secured a place in people’s hearts across the nation.
Her List
Anupama’s list has four South Indian films and only one Bollywood film. Well, it’s no surprise that this year the Southern cinema industry outperformed Bollywood in all terms.
Anupama Chopra’s list begins from the bottom, declaring Vikram as the 5th best film of the year. She says, that if you are watching Kamal Kamal Haasan starrer then you should bathe in testosterone.
With her next name on the list, it is, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I (4th place). Anupama calls the film the Indian version of Game of Thrones.
Number 3 is the one and only Bollywood film, Gangubai Kathiawadi. The Alia Bhatt starrer has impressed the critic a lot and she has termed the film ‘Beautiful’ and ’emotionally rich’.
The 2nd place was awarded to Rishab Shetty’s mind-boggling film Kantara. Anupama calls the Kananda film stunning, mesmerizing, thrilling, and whatnot. The film critic honored Rishab Shetty’s film in a unique way.
At the top spot, it is SS Rajamouli’s RRR that has amazed the film critic by all means. ‘Every time I see this film, I am always cheering and applauding’, says Anupama.
Anupama ‘Omits’ Yash’s KGF 2
One thing that is quite surprising about Anupama’s list is she has decided to omit the blockbuster Kannada film KGF Chapter 2. It might be unexpected to many, but despite the massive success of films such as RRR, Vikram, and Kantara, the Yash starrer still remains the biggest Indian film of this year, with more than Rs 1200 crore in box office revenue.
Helmed by Prashanth Neel, the film’s release changed the face of box office collections after the pandemic. While movies across the country struggled to generate numbers and pull the audience to the theatres, Yash’s film roared pan-India and collected Rs 54 crores on an opening day. The movie broke multiple records and proved that people were still ready to flood the theatres if their time was made fruitful.
Though Rajamouli came out with RRR, the movie was not the only blockbuster from the South it was KGF: Chapter 2 that somehow managed to beat the grand release of Ram Charan and Jr. NTR starrer film.
It’s still a dream for filmmakers and actors to achieve what the Kannada movie has set at the box office. And given all this, Anupama still finds ridiculous reasons to put aside the eminent film of the year from her list.
