Drishyam 2’s Success Has Confused Saif Ali Khan, Asks “Why Vikram Vedha Flopped?”

Released on 30th September, Vikram Vedha is an official Bollywood remake of the 2017 Tamil film of the same name. The original one starred R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles, which are repeated by Saif and Hrithik respectively in the Hindi remake. Upon its release, the film brought positive reviews from critics and the audience alike. However, the end result wasn’t satisfying and the film failed to even hit the 90 crore mark in India.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Saif Ali Khan spoke addressed the failure of Vikram Vedha. He said, “The reason we should be very polite to each other is that nobody has any clue of what works and doesn’t work.”

The actor further spoke about the majority of Bollywood films not working well at the box office. “I have no idea but something is happening. People will continue to make movies. Prices will keep fluctuating because our pricing, some of it, is insane. We pay people astronomically and the returns have been not good,” Saif added.

On the work front, Saif Ali Khan will next be seen as Lankeshwar aka Raavan in the Ramayana-inspired ambitious project Adipurush which also stars Prabhas and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. The film, directed by Om Raut, is slated to release in June 2023.

Drishyam 2 success

Coming to Drishyam 2, on Sunday, the film witnessed a massive jump of 30 percent, and has added approximately Rs 27 crore nett to its total. According to early estimates, the film has done business of around Rs 63 crore nett at the end of its first weekend, reports Boxoffice India.

‘Drishyam 2’ has been driving huge traffic from mass circuits with the CI market adding around Rs 1 crore nett on Sunday. However, it remains to be seen if the film’s speed continues on weekdays.

Reacting to the massive success of ‘Drishyam 2’, director Abhishek Pathak told ETimes, “It is overwhelming! I knew I made an honest film that was not a blind remake of the original. Everyone on my team worked really hard on this. But the audience’s love is amazing and beyond all expectations. I am really happy. I expected the first-day collections to be good. But then it has just gone beyond my expectations.”
