Actor and filmmaker Kamaal R Khan has been arrested at Mumbai airport for his controversial tweets about Irrfan, Rishi Kapoor in 2020. He will be produced before the court on August 30, said the police.
KRK arrested
Kamaal R Khan aka KRK, the actor-critic was arrested by Malad Police following a controversial tweet made by him in 2020. The 47-year-old was detained at the airport and was arrested post questioning. The complaint was filed against him at Malad Police Station by Yuva Sena member Rahul Kanal.
While it was not immediately clear for which tweet the actor was arrested, an FIR was lodged against him for making derogatory remarks about late actors Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan on social media in 2020.
The controversy
On April 30, Khan took to Twitter to announce Rishi Kapoor’s hospitalization and said the actor must not die as wine shops were set to open soon, according to a PTI report quoting a police official. He had also taken a jab at Irrfan Khan, a day before his death on April 29.
“We have registered an FIR against Kamal R Khan for making derogatory remarks about both the deceased actors under section 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words in public) and other provisions of the IPC,” PTI had quoted a senior police official as saying.
Kamaal R Khan often makes headlines due to his attacks on Bollywood and B-town celebrities. He has worked in several Hindi and Bhojpuri films and has also produced projects. He was also a part of Bigg Boss 3.
