Pankaj Tripathi has become the latest celebrity to have voiced an opinion on the ongoing cancel culture which has adversely affected films like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan.
Pankaj Tripathi’s opinion
Well-known Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi has opened up about the ongoing ‘cancel culture’ of Bollywood which has impacted films like Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan. With ‘Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha’ still trending on Twitter, Tripathi said that it is people’s right to voice their opinion since we live in a democratic country.
Speaking to India Today, Tripathi explained the correlation between films and the betterment of society. He said, “Democracy me sabko apni baat rakhne ka adhikaar hai (In a democratic world, everyone has the right to voice their opinion). But at the same time, films are a big medium that generates revenue for the government. This revenue is then used for the betterment of society. Lekin, sehemati ho ya nahi, (however, if they agree or not), this is each individual’s right.”
Boycott Culture
Ever since Aamir Khan announced his film, “BoycottLaalSinghChaddha” has been trending. Even after the film was released, the trend continued and the film opened with only Rs 10 crore at the box office. Protests are also taking place in several parts of the country with members of the Hindu outfit Sanatan Rakshak Sena staging protests.
Meanwhile, actor Suniel Shett has also voiced his opinion on the ongoing boycott campaign against films ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and ‘Raksha Bandhan’. “I hate this ‘boycott Bollywood’ campaign that is going on on Twitter. I always pray it stops because we are an industry too and there are a lot of people feeding off us. So for that sake let’s not destroy an industry that has its own legacy of good people and people who probably at some stage make mistakes. But aren’t we humans too? Give one that opportunity. I only say it’s not fair. We can only pray that better sense prevails and this doesn’t happen and these two films work big time.”
