A rejoicing Depp on Wednesday said the jury “gave me my life back” as he was awarded $15 million in damages for defamation, in contrast to just $2 million for his ex-wife, who had counter-sued. Depp’s fans, who have rooted for him throughout the six-week trial, took to Twitter with the hashtag “Truth Wins” to celebrate the verdict.

For those who don’t know, Depp sued Heard for libel in Fairfax County Circuit Court over a December 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post defining herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Depp’s lawyers said that the actor was defamed by the article even though it never mentioned his name.
