The Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata is likely to witness a few showers of rain during the day. However, the chances of rainfall during the night are pretty low. In a case where the match gets washed out completely, BCCI has made some rules regarding the same.
LSG and RCB eliminator match
The IPL Qualifier 1 turned out to be a nail-biting match, and now, the attention turns towards the Eliminator where there will be no second chances. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are all set for a spot in the Qualifier 2 with a battle at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.
LSG and RCB faced each other only once earlier in their tournament. In that match, Faf du Plessis’s side beat KL Rahul’s team by 18 runs. Batting first in the match, RCB piled up 181-6 on the scoreboard. The skipper of RCB scored stunning 96 runs for the team after coming to the crease as an opener. For LSG, Dushmantha Chameera and Ravi Bishnoi picked 2 wickets each.
But that was past, and both the teams have played enough cricket to understand the game much better than before. It will be interesting to see what both teams bring to the table to outperform one another. The winner of the game will meet Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier2. But what happens if the Eliminator is interrupted by rain?
Rain interruption
Rain threatened the Qualifier 1 too, however, the gods showed mercy on the two franchises as we saw a full 40-over game. The situation with the Eliminator between RCB and LSG, however, is a tricky one.
As per weather reports, the temperature of Kolkata city on May 25 (Wednesday) will hover around 34° Celsius during the day and will fall down to 28° Celsius during the night. In the afternoon, thunderstorms can be expected in the city.
The chances of rain during the day are pretty high, at 65% but they drastically reduce during the night, at 4%. In all probability, there will be rain at Eden Gardens during the day but by the time, the match starts, there is a high chance that we’ll have a clear sky.
That’s not it, because of the rain during the day, a wet outfield could be a problem for the two teams. But, the good news is that the Eden Gardens has an amazing drainage system and the staff has already covered the entire ground. However, all these things might not work if a thunderstorm strikes. The ground staff is expected to be pretty active the entire day in order to provide ideal playing conditions at the iconic venue. But what if the match gets washed out?
Though the possibility of organizing a Super Over exists for the IPL 2022 Eliminator. There will be 5 overs per side game if the playing conditions are good. However, if the game isn’t possible due to any reason, the match would see LSG progress to Qualifier 2 as they have a better position in the points table during the league campaign.
“For the Eliminator and each Qualifier playoff matches (where there is no reserve day), in the event that it is not possible to schedule a five-over match to complete by the end of the extra time on an original day, the teams will, if conditions permit, play a Super Over to determine the winner of the relevant Eliminator or Qualifier match,” the guidelines said.
