Superstar Aamir Khan whose films have pushed the fame of Bollywood in the global arena has made some proud remarks about the Kannada film. In a recent interview, The Lal Singh Chaddha actor has expressed how the name of the film KGF scares him!.
Does Aamir Khan fear KGF?
The hierarchy in Indian cinema was clearly limited till a few years ago. Bollywood was the big boss, with films being made in various states that were termed as ‘regional cinema. It was believed that they could never match Bollywood movies in terms of scale. However, the change sneaked through and ‘pan-India film’ became the most in-demand. South Indian films are now crushing Bollywood in all aspects. From KGF to RRR, South dominance is here to stay.
Aamir in his recent interaction with the media has said that “the name KGF itself has a weight in it. Not just today but for 100 years to come, the name will live forever. It is a brand now,” he said.
He also went on to say that the name KGF itself is like gold and it instills fear in him as the name has become so huge now.
Fears of Bollywood
KGF has indeed given Bollywood a tough competition and has forced a few films to postpone their release dates standing next to Yash starrer. One among them is Aamir Khan’s ‘Lal Singh Chadda’. The film was pushed to August solely due to the release of KGF 2. The same scenario was also with Jersey 2, the Shahid Kapoor starrer film was released in theatres on April 22 to avoid a clash with KGF: Chapter 2 at the box office.
All in all, it can be said that Kannada Cinema is growing bigger by the day and creating records that have threatened other film industries. Earlier, the films would find it hard to reach the Hindi audience but now the tables have turned and it has happened for good.
South Indian films have formed a loyal fan base in the Hindi Belt. Estimates suggest that they (South Films) will be taking up more than 50 percent of total box-office collections.
