Ratan Tata apologized for not speaking in Hindi
Sharing the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, industrialist Ratan Tata addressed a government event in Assam. “Aaj Assam ka bahut important din hai…(today is a very important day for Assam,” the 84-year-old business tycoon said in Hindi.
Further, Tata said he was not comfortable speaking Hindi, so he would speak in English. “I can’t give a speech in Hindi, so I will try to communicate with all of you in English. But what I say will be a message from the heart.”
Ratan Tata further said that he has dedicated the last years of his life to the field of health. “I dedicate my last years to health. Make Assam a state that recognizes and is recognized by all,” he underlined.
“Today is a very important day in the history of the state of Assam. It is the day that raises Assam to a higher level in terms of healthcare and treatment of cancer… It really is a day that for cancer, which is not a rich man’s disease, the state is being equipped to serve millions. None of this would have taken place if it was not for the chief minister… and of course without the support of the Prime Minister,” he said.
Cancer hospitals
Seven cancer centers were launched by PM Modi on this occasion, and he also laid the foundation stone during the event. The centers are being developed by the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF), a joint venture of the state government and Tata Trusts.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, “Today 7 new cancer hospitals have been launched in Assam. There was a time, the opening of a single hospital in 7 years used to be a matter of celebration. Now the times have changed. I am told that in a few months three more cancer hospitals will be ready to serve you.”
