Infographic: Smart House Technology for Saving Energy

Many people are concerned about their energy consumption, but no one wants to be uncomfortably hot or cold at home during the warm or cold months. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to settle for higher utility bills in the summer and winter. By staying on top of HVAC maintenance, adding a few smart appliances, and making some lifestyle changes, you can reduce your energy use without having to roast or freeze in your living room.

Smart Thermostat

One of the best ways to revolutionize your energy use is with a smart thermostat. Changing the temperature by 7-10 degrees for eight hours can take a chunk out of your utility bills. But for many people, that would mean sweating or being too cold at home. You can get around this with a smart thermostat, which can automatically adjust the temperature at times when you’re not using the HVAC, such as when you’re at work.

Outside of these changes, it’s important that you stay on top of HVAC maintenance and care to save energy. At the very least, you should check and change your HVAC filters every one to three months and schedule maintenance before peak seasons to ensure your HVAC will run efficiently when you’ll be using it most.

House Monitoring System

If you’re interested in learning more about how your home is using energy and ways you could improve your consumption, consider installing a house monitoring system that tracks your usage habits or conducting an energy audit — either independently or through a professional service.
