The much awaited trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi created waves across the country much like the speech that Gangubai Kathiawadi gave once upon a time, speaking about prostitution in India. The film has caught the limelight again as the Censor Board has ordered cuts in the film.

The film is based on the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ written by Hussain Zaidi. The book mentions Gangubai Kathiawadi’s interaction with former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

When the brothel owner was delivering a speech during woman empowerment summit, she shed light on the need for prostitution belts in cities. Gangubai’s speech made waves all over the nation, so much so that she got to meet Nehru who was the PM then. He was so impressed with her speech that he asked her why she chose this work when she could have found a nice husband…?

In her response, Gangubai asked the man if he would marry her, thus telling him that it is easier to preach, tough to practice. Nehru clearly did not seem okay with the idea.

The story is now on the film which the censor board dislikes.

The film Gangubai Kathiawadi, has got U/A certification. The censor board has asked to modify the scene showing Jawaharlal Nehru implanting a rose in Gangubai’s hair, reports ETimes. While two scenes have been cut, dialogues in two others have been altered.
