Virat Kohli stepping down as the Indian Test captain has been a widely debated issue and topic where the cricketing fraternity has expressed their apprehensions and choices about this decision.
His announcement came after the Indian side lost to South Africa with 2-1 standing in the test series and witnessed much criticism. What followed is who will become the next captain, will it be Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul?
Everybody was making their call but what caught the limelight was how former cricketer and legend, Sunil Gavaskar named young wicketkeeper and batsman, Rishab Pant as his choice.
This choice of Gavaskar was supported by hitter Yuvraj Singh who wrote,
“Absolutely! Reads the game well behind the stumps”

Gavaskar had written,
“If you ask me, I am still staying, I would look at Rishabh Pant as next India captain,”.
“For one reason only, just like Rohit Sharma was given the captaincy of Mumbai Indians when Ricky Ponting stepped down, look at the change in his batting after that. Suddenly the responsibility of being captain made him convert those beautiful cameos of 30s, 40s and 50s into hundreds, 150s and 200s. I think that sense of responsibility given to Rishabh Pant will help him score many more of that wonderful hundred he scored at Newlands,” he added.
Sharma was named the vice-captain of the series, KL Rahul also assumed the role at times when Rohit was ruled out.
Pant stands with no experience of leading the team India but he definitely has proven a good captain for the IPL team Delhi Capitals.
