It is always said that portraying a negative role is not an easy task as compared to other genres of acting. This is believed to be true by actors across the world. On the other hand, it is a space which is not everyone’s cup of tea. As far as the Indian Cinema is considered, the mainstream actors refused to take up the negative roles and so became the reason for the birth of a set of actors reserved to play negative characters. Today, it is not so reserved but back in those days, we had a line up of actors known for their bad guy attitude in the movie. Vajramuni
The dynamic Vajramuni is one of the legendary Villians of Kannada film industry known for his thundering voice and sterling performances. It is said that people used to afraid of him when he appeared on the screen. The way he used to roar with his dialogues and groove with the narrative, people call him as Natabhayankara. He made his debut with Puttanna Kangal’s Mallammana Pavada and went on to act in some of the Kannada classics like Mayura, Babruvahana, Sampattige Savaal, Sangliyana, Sahasasimha, Shankar Guru, Premada Kanike and the list goes on and on.
Thoogudeepa Srinivas
Mysore Srinivas or popularly known as Thoogudeepa Srinivas is again an eminent actor who has contributed a lot to Kannada film industry. He was a great villain who used to get that demon kind of charm on the silver screen. Some of his classic performances came in movies named Mayor Muthanna, Banggarada Panjara, Gandhada Gudi, Vasantha Lakshmi, Sipayi Ramu, Giri Kanye and etc.
Balakrishna
An actor who was said to be deaf has appeared in over a hundred films that starred Dr. Rajkumar in the lead role. The way he would catch the lip movements of the artists to deliver the dialogues spontaneously was truly magical. Balakrishna was a popular Villian and a Comedian of those times loved by people from all walks of life. He has acted in 560+ films as a hero, villain, comedian, loving father and a lunatic. If you have watched old Kannada movies then you know Dinesh as the most notorious Villain. The actor then switched to perform in comedy and social drama. He has appeared in 100+ movies which include Naandi, Sri KrishnaDevaraya, C.B.I Shankar, Swayamvara, Kiladi Jodi, and others.
Tiger Prabhakar
Prabhakar, a strongly built actor who was largely known for his villainous roles is one of the popular names in KFI. The actor has appeared in 450+ movies playing roles of a different genre. Some of his notable performances came in movies like Gandhada Gudi, Jaggu, Raja Nanna Raja, Giri Kanye, Raktha Tilaka, Shankar Guru, and others.
Shakti Prasad
J.C Ramaswamy, known by his screen name Shakti Prasad, was an Indian actor who appeared in Kannada films mostly in villainous roles. The actor has appeared in 200+ movies and some of the landmark ones are Immadi Pulakeshi and Antha.
Musuri Krishna Murthy
He was a multi-talented actor who came with a prowess of performing roles of all kinds from comedy, supporting, to antihero. However, he is largely remembered for his role in Puttanna Kanagal’s Paduvaralli Pandavaru. The way he enacted a character called Kalappa with that rage and animosity has no match.
Sudheer
Sudheer played negative roles in movies which came in the late 80s and early 90s. He has his own style of expression. The actor has appeared in more than 200 movies and a few notable ones are SP Sangliyana, Central Rowdy, Havina Hede, and others.
Dheerendra Gopal
Shivane Shambulinga – Deheerendra Gopal was a popular actor and stage artiste. He is largely known for his villain and comedy roles. Some of his best performances came in movies like Paduvaralli Pandavaru, Nanobba Kalla, Sahasa Simha, Gajapathi Garvabhanga, Annaiah, Gadibidi Ganda and others.
Avinash

Doddanna

DevRaj
Devraj has acted in 200+ films portraying roles of a different genre. He started with Villain roles and continued to play them to become a Hero with time. The actor has won the Karnataka Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal as the protagonist in the film Veerappan in 1991.
Sundar Krishna Urs
One of the class rowdies of KFI who was known for his baritone voice and eminent portrayals. He also worked as a dubbing artist providing the voice to so many actors. Some of the notable films as an actor are Sangya Balya, Hrudaya Hadithu, Samyuktha, Nyaya Ellide, Ondanondu Kaladalli, and others.
Mukhya Mantri Chandru
In the early 90s, Chandru was one of the most demanding Villains of KFI. He has appeared in more than 500 movies playing roles of a different genre. He came from theatre and his stage play named Mukhya Mantri became so popular that the title stuck to his name. Some of his popular movies include Chakravyuha, Swabhimana, S P Sangliyana Part 2, Ammavra Ganda, and etc.
Hema Chowdari
Hema Chowdari is counted among a very few woman villains of KFI. She is best remembered for her villainous roles that she portrayed in Kannada cinema in films like Subhashaya (1977) and Gaali Maathu (1981).
Harish Raj
Do you remember him? A multi-lingual and a versatile actor who appeared in movies which came in the 90s. He has always played antagonist roles and some of his best performances came in movies like Dhyrya, Police story, OM, and others.
Shobaraj
This actor stands out for many reasons. Shobaraj is the ultimate Villain of recent times who has appeared in 100 + movies with stars like Dr. Raj, Dr.Vishnuvardhan, Sudeep, Darshan, and every other big name of the industry. Some of his notable films include Yajamana, Shabdavedi, Police Story, Simhadriya Simha, and others.
Sharath Lohitashwa
If you have watched Aa Dinagalu, Sanju Weds Geetha, Bheema Teeradalli, and Saarathi then you know this actor as the deadliest Villain. Sharath Lohitashwa has played roles of a different genre but he is largely identified for his villainous roles.
Rangayana Raghu

P. Ravi Shankar
An actor with a dynamic voice started his film career as a Dubbing artist. Ravishankar has dubbed for over 2600 films with more than 1000 films each in Telugu and Tamil languages coupled with 150 Kannada films. He rose to fame with the 2011 blockbuster Kempegowda starring Kiccha Sudeep. Today, in every film, he is welcomed by whistles and claps by his Kananda fans and that speaks about his popularity and fame.
