Ever heard of free water supply in the country ? Well, it has been implemented in some parts of India, in which Aravind Kejriwal initiated the primary step of giving free water supply to its people setting a limit on its consumption. But it was not instrumental in the entire state as the provisions and infrastructure were not available. However, good news comes from Goa, after its CM Pramod Sawant announced free water supply in the entire state.
Goa Becomes The First State
Goa CM Sawant launched the ‘Save Water to Get Free Water’ scheme on Tuesday under which households in the state will not be charged for consumption up to 16,000 litres. He said that the state will become the first state in the country to supply water free of cost to its citizens.
The households in the state will not be charged for consumption up to 16,000 litres. For an average household this water limit is sufficient to fulfill its needs and beneficial for all.
What CM Sawant Said
Sawant said, “Goa will be the first state in the country to give water free to the people. We are not giving this water to waste; we want to save water to get free water.”
“From September 1, we are reducing water bills. 16,000 litres of water will be given free of cost. From 1 September, 60 percent of the households will get zero bills. Those living in flats or complexes will be able to utilise the scheme,” he added.
He also announced that small businesses and restaurants will be transferred from the industrial to commercial segment for water billing, due to which, they also will be able to avail the benefit of this scheme. “Small businesses and restaurants will not have to pay industrial bills anymore” he added.
Looking at the present condition in the world, which has lots of water scarcity and environmental issues; if this scheme is truly implemented on a regular basis it will prove beneficial for lakhs of people in the state who are stranded without a drop of water to drink.
