OTT Platforms had so far been restricted to producing content in Bollywood. However, streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime and Disney Hotstar have recently started recognizing content in the South Indian industries. It is now time for global OTT Netflix to join the bandwagon. Although there has not been an announcement of original content apart from Navarasa, the platform now has a designated social media handle to post updates about content from the South.
Namma Stories – The South Anthem
Netflix India South has dropped an anthem as the start to the celebration of stories from South India. The song features rappers Arivu, Siri, Hanumankind, and Neeraj Madav, who recite in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam respectively.
The album showcases the culture and heritage of stories from each of the Southern states. There are references to popular South actors, and at the end of the four-minute video, we see shots of South content that’s already available on the platform. Directed by Akshay Sundher, this clip has been composed and produced by Kartik Shah.
SIRI represents Kannada in the Anthem
In the Kannada segment of the anthem, it is SIRI who appears on the screen. Her words are focused on the prominence and diversity of the Kannada language. There is also a mention of the different dialects of the language, starting from Bidar in the North to Kodagu in the South.
There is also reference to some famous cuisines with words such as Chikmagalur coffee and Maddur Vada being used in the song. Kannada stars such as Dr Rajkumar, Upendra, Bharathi, Kalpana, Kichcha Sudeep, Umashree, Malashri, and Yash are mentioned in the clip.
