Since assuming office in 2014, PM Narendra Modi has been maintaining the tradition of celebrating Diwali every year along with soldiers. This time around, keeping up with the tradition, the PM visited Jaisalmer’s Longewala and celebrated the festival along with the Jawans there.
The highlights of PM Modi’s speech at Jaisalmer
PM Modi delivered a powerful speech addressing the soldiers at Jaisalmer’s Longewala. While he requested every citizen to light a Diya as a salute to the ‘fearless soldiers’, Modiji then thanked the mothers, children, and sisters of the country for their sacrifice.
The Prime Minister asserted that India is working rapidly towards making the defense sector Atmanirbhar and said that today, the Indian Army is engaged in military exercises with big countries. He even said that the Indian Army can now strike terrorists when required and warned the opposing countries by saying that if anyone casts an evil eye, the Army would reply befittingly. He concluded by thanking the soldiers for their invaluable contribution during the COVID-crisis in the country.
PM Modi’s photo-op leaves Twitter divided
On the other hand, there was yet another discussion that was brewing on social media. PM Modi posted a few photographs from his time at Longewala and the places he visited there. Sporting an Army attire, Modiji looked stunning in these photographs. While a few users commented on the words ‘Swag’ and ‘Killer’ for Modi’s looks, a few others were not impressed with the move. They were not particularly happy with Modiji’s self-centeredness in the pictures. There was a third section which wasted no time in launching memes and hilarious comments. Below, we have curated a set of tweets comprising most of the reactions.
