Virat Kohli has been trending a lot these days. While his team’s exit from IPL was one topic, the recent news that he had applied for paternity leave was another one. On Diwali too, Virat has trended on Twitter with the hashtag #IStandWithVirat.
Virat Kohli wishes India on Diwali
On Saturday, Virat posted a short clip on Twitter and wished the country on Diwali. Virat said: “A very happy Diwali from me to you and your families. May God bless you with peace, prosperity, and happiness this Diwali. Please remember do not burst crackers to protect the environment and have fun at home with your loved ones with a simple Diya and sweets on this auspicious occasion.“

Twitter unhappy with the wishes
Few users on Twitter were unhappy with the Indian captain’s wishes. They called him a ‘hinduphobic’ and a ‘hypocrite’ for not respecting the festival of lights. Here are a few reactions in this regard:
Why do they always have issue with Hindu festivals whether it's Diwali or Holi pic.twitter.com/GdKKCc7C6Q

Do not burst crackers?? Have you not seen crackers during ipl final?? Christmas or new year?? At that time you will keep silent, but you will give your selective gyaan during Hindu festivals

Please don't teach us whether we have to burst crackers or not just wish on the festival that's enough ? pic.twitter.com/EwVUH9adtj

#IStandWithVirat trending on Twitter
As much as he is criticized, Virat still has plenty of followers in the country. A few weeks ago too, when Virat’s unavailability for the final three tests against Australia was announced, his fans defended him till the end. In the latest topic too, many were behind the RCB skipper. They proclaimed that Virat was indeed right in speaking out his thoughts in the short clip. The tag #IStandWithVirat trended on these lines.
I stopped burning crackers from 2015 just bcz my idol @imVkohli requested us to celebrate environment friendly diwali !!! I will do anything for him #IStandWithVirat pic.twitter.com/ZStZwc6jxc

Does our National pride deserve this hate on the auspicious occasion of Diwali? & to drag his pregnant wife into it. Absolutely disgusting!
All he did was deliver a humble & logical Diwali message in the interest of the common man amidst the current situation. #IStandWithVirat pic.twitter.com/bVrJ15Tt6Y
