In a shocking news coming from the United Arab Emirates where the current edition of the Indian Premier League is happening, a player has been found to be involved in corrupt practices.
The anti-corruption unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been alerted and is looking into the reported corrupt approach of the said cricketer. The 13th edition of the popular tournament has been underway in a bio-secure bubble which has so far made sure that the chance of players getting the novel coronavirus is less. This also means that there is very few chances that an outsider or a person from the outer world has access to the player directly. However, the threat of online connection still exists.
The chief of the anti-corruption unit, Ajit Singh, confirmed the news and said,
“Yes (a player has reported approach). We are tracking him. It will take some time.”
Board Refuses To Name The Player
Another senior official BCCI also said that all the players, capped and uncapped, have attended multiple anti-corruption classes. He said,
“The best part is that the player who was approached immediately senses that something was fishy. He had a suspicion and he immediately shared his concerns with the ACU. Every player, even those who have come from the U-19s are well aware of each and every anti-corruption protocols.”
The name of the player has been kept under wraps as of now. The Anti-Corruption Unit has conducted multiple counseling sessions virtually for all the eight teams in the tournament. Ajit Singh is leading a team of eight men in the United Arab Emirates. The Indian cricket board has also tied up with the United Kingdom-based company Sportradar which will offer its service called “integrity services” that will prevent betting and other corrupt practices in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
