In the times after the novel coronavirus entered the lives of people, teaching has shifted to online. The new normal – online teaching has become a challenge for teachers across the country. However, in Karnataka, a teacher has found a hack to make online classes interesting.
Technology has taken over the world in the COVID-19 world. It has managed to find its way into every field of work and has provided an alternate way to function. Like everything else, teaching has also hit with technology but only some are using it in an innovative way. One of them is a teacher from Karnataka.
The teacher from Karnataka, Basavaraj Sungari, has been making use of the Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in order to make the online classes interesting. Using the two technology, he has created 3D videos for his students. Basavaray Sungari teaches for a government primary school in the Bhutaramanahatti village of Belagavi district.
‘Online Classes Will Never Replace Physical Classes’
In a report in News18, Sungari is seen in a video where he is explaining the concepts of planets, sun, and moon using the 3D models of the same. According to Sungari, he used simple editing tools on his mobile and personal computers to create these videos in the native language of Kannada. He said that he has created similar videos for subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics. He also revealed the application he used on his mobile called Arloopa which embed his videos with the 3D objects. Speaking to The Hindu, he said,
“Such tools are used by young people to develop games. But I found them useful in creating content that can be easily understood by rural students.”
However, Sungari also believes that online classes can never replace physical classes. He also mentioned that some of his rural students miss his virtual classes because of a lack of access to the internet and smartphones.
