Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech today, announced the National Digital Health Mission (NHDM). Touted to bring a new revolution in India’s health sector, Mr. Modi gave out more details about the mission.
NDHM will come under AB-PM JAY
The National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) will come under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Revealing more details of the mission, Mr. Modi said: “Every Indian will get a Health ID card. Every time you visit a doctor or a pharmacy, everything will be saved in this health ID card. From the doctor’s appointment to the medication advised, everything will be available in your health profile.“

Features of National Digital Health Mission (NDHM)
The features of NDHM are said to be: Health services registry, Telemedicine, E-pharmacy, Health ID, Personal medical record, and Digi-doctor. The Government said that NDHM would bring accessibility and health care solutions to the fingertips.
As per NHA, the vision of NDHM will be to create a national digital health ecosystem that provides access to efficient, accessible, inclusive, affordable, timely, and safe healthcare for all the citizens.
In 2019, Dr. Harsha Vardhan had brought in the National Digital Health Eco-system (NDHE) and had said: “The objective is to establish state-of-the-art digital health systems, for managing the core digital health data, the infrastructure required for its seamless exchange. Also to create a system of personal health records, based on international standards and easily accessible to the citizens and healthcare providers.“
