Of late the word nepotism has been used in several discussions on social media, on Primetime news, and in real-life discussions. The word first came into our life through Bollywood. Bollywood usually doesn’t speak about nepotism but like Bollywood, nepotism exists in all fields and causes outrage every now and then in our country.
Even as many star kids continue to get easy launchpads and several chances, there have been few celebrities, actors, and directors who have come out in the open and spoken about nepotism in the industry. Here are some of the celebrities who spoke against Nepotism.
Emraan Hashmi
Actor Emraan Hashmi has openly said that he is a product of nepotism. He has also said he wouldn’t be an actor if nepotism didn’t exist. He was launched by his uncle Mahesh Bhatt in 2003 through a film called footpath.
Ayushmaan Khurrana
Ayushman Khurana who has become a star now after years of struggle had said that if nepotism didn’t exist he would have made his debut at the age of 22. He was 27 when he made his debut.
Rajkumar Rao
Critically acclaimed actor Rajkumar Rao said that he had seen various non-talented actors getting chances ahead of him. He also said favoritism does not bother him but favoritism that gives chances to non-talented people is a problem for him.
Kangana Ranaut
The nepotism debate gained mileage in Bollywood after actress Kangana Ranaut openly called Karan Johar the flag bearer of nepotism. According to her, the star kids have everything right from the start whereas an outsider needs at least 10 years to build an audience or even get a critique for his work.
Ananya Pandey
Ananya Pandey, a Star kid, who made her debut with Student of the Year 2 has also acknowledged that nepotism exists and it is easy for Star kids to get their first film. Although she said that sustaining is always the tough part.
Kriti Sanon
Actress Kriti Sanon has also spoken about how nepotism has affected her career. In an interview, she had mentioned that she was once replaced by a star kid in a film. It happened a few times, she said.
Taapsee Pannu
Taapsee Pannu who is known for doing intense cinema also recalled the time when she has dropped from a film abruptly for not being a star kid. She later revealed that she was shattered and it was hard to get going from there. She also claimed that she was kicked out of Pati Patni Aur Woh without giving a reason.
Surveen Chawla
Surveen Chawla also has a similar story. The actress known for her roles in Hate Story 2 and Sacred Games was kicked out of a film to accommodate a star kid.
Siddhant Chaturvedi
Siddant Chaturvedi, who became a rage with Gully Boy, said in an interview that star kids face fewer difficulties compared to self-made stars.
Ranbir Kapoor
In an interview with AIB, Ranbir Kapoor acknowledged the existence of nepotism and said he is a beneficiary of it. If not for his grandfather, great grandfather, and his father, he wouldn’t have been here.
Alia Bhatt
Popular actress Alia Bhatt also said that her connections in the industry made things a lot easier for her. She also said it’s natural for outsiders to feel injust about nepotism.
Karan Johar
Karan Johar, who has been called the flag bearer of nepotism, has said that nepotism exists in all industries, it is not exclusive to Bollywood.
Swara Bhaskar
The controversial actor Swara Bhaskar had once said that Bollywood is an industry based on relationships and that perfectly sums up the debate.
