Over 2 lakh People affected By the Floods in Assam, Three Dead in Arunachal Pradesh

Because of the incessant rain across the state of Assam, nearly seven districts have been severely affected by the floods. Over two lakh people have been affected due to floods.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that 229 villages in 17 revenue circles have been hit by the floods. Some of the revenue circles are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Darrang, Nalbari, Goalpara, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, etc. As per the data of the ASDMA, a total of 1,94,916 people have been affected and 9,000 of them are currently sheltered in the relief camps set up by the government Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Goalpara, and Tinsukia.

Agriculturally, over 1,007 hectares of crop area has been swamped away by the floods that have affected close to 16,500 domestic animals and poultry. Although most rivers flowing in the state have remained in spate, the likes of Jia Bharali and Brahmaputra have been flowing above the danger mark in Sonitpur and Nematighat respectively.

Three killed due to flood in Arunachal Pradesh

A landslide in the Arzoo village in the Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh has taken the lives of three people belonging to the same family. The rainfall over the last two days has severely affected the states while they are battling another crisis of the novel coronavirus.

The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh each to the kin of the people who lost their lives in the floods. He also directed the district level administration to move people from the flood-affected and landslide-prone areas to safer areas.

The current week is proving to become a tough one for India as it recorded the highest temperature in various cities across North India including Rajasthan, New Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh by making the region the hottest region in the world currently.

However, the IMD warned that the north-eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya will be receiving end of heavy rainfall from 26th-28th May. A red-colored alert has been issued to both the states. IMD also advised people to stay indoors as the intense heat can be dangerous. It also advised people to stay hydrated.
