The BJP leader from Karnataka and the Union Minister Sadananda Gowda landed in Bengaluru on Monday after taking a flight from Delhi. In a shocking event, Gowda has declined from undergoing institutional quarantine as per the rules laid out by the Karnataka government.
The domestic flights resumed on Monday as the first batch of passengers to travel in the air landed in their respective destinations. While the Union government had said that there is no need for domestic air passengers to undergo quarantine, each state has framed its own set of guidelines to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Union Minister Sadananda Gowda too landed in Bengaluru from Delhi and skipped the quarantine guidelines laid out by the government. When the stationed media at the airport confronted him, he responded by saying that is the pharma minister and therefore he is exempted from quarantine rules.
Karnataka Guidelines
As per the guidelines issued by the government of Karnataka for the returnees from Air, a mandatory institutional quarantine for 7 days was prescribed. This applied to those passengers who flew from the affected states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The swab test of the passengers will be taken during institutional quarantine and if their test turns negative, they will be advised a home quarantine of another 14 days. For returnees from other states, home quarantine of 14 days is prescribed.
Praveen Sood, the Director-General of Karnataka Police had said,
“Incoming domestic flight passengers from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh will undergo 7-day institutional quarantine, followed by home quarantine.”
However, the Union Minister has managed to violate the quarantine guidelines laid out by his own government at the state.
The number of cases in the state has drastically increased over the course of the past week. On Sunday, the state crossed the 2,000 marks of positive cases. The state recorded yet another death on Monday taking its tally to 43. The number of new cases on Monday morning bulletin was 69, where 6 are from the Bengaluru Urban. The total active cases in the state stand at 1433 with 680 recoveries and 2 non-covid related death.
