Horrific Incident Repeats: Two Sadhus Killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr

A horrific incident has been reported from the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh where two Sadhus were killed. The accused were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday morning.

The incident took place in the Pagona village of the Anoopshahar area of Bulandshahr district. According to the reports, the accused, a youth, had a tussle with the Sadhus as he tried to steal their ‘chimta’ (tongs). The priests were later attacked with a sharp-edged object. The youth was later arrested and it was found out that he was under the influence of toxic substances when the crime took place. The youth was identified as Raju.

The SSP of the Bulandshahr police, Santhosh Singh spoke to the media where he said,

“The youth Raju had an altercation with sadhu two days ago who charged him of stealing their chimta. He has been arrested from a neighboring village and has confessed to his crime. The arrested man was under the influence of some toxic substance therefore further interrogation would be conducted soon after he resumes his senses.”

Second such case in a span of two weeks

The priests have been identified as Rangidas or Jadhish who was aged 56 and his disciple Sher Singh who was 46. The Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath has directed the police to visit the village and send a report to him about the same. The police force has been deployed in the village.

This incident comes a week after two Sadhus were lynched in Palghar village in Maharashtra. A car with the 3 victims was stopped midway Gadchinchale village in the Kasa taluk of Palghar district by a mob. The 3 people were dragged out of the car and were beaten to death. The police that reached the incident upon receiving the information failed to protect the victims as the mob reportedly attacked the police and vandalized the police vehicle.

The three men were identified as Sushil Giri Maharaj (35), Nilesh Telgane (35), and Maharaj Kalpavrikshgiri (70). Out of the three, two were Sadhus. They were reportedly headed for a funeral in Surat. The video of the heinous crime was circulated in social media which was followed by the outrage of the people against the crime.
