In the latest update, the former cricketer and commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar have been axed from the list of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) commentary panel, which also includes the upcoming IPL 2020.

Sanjay’s exit from commentary panel

According to the sources, the 54-year-old, who has been a regular feature in the commentary box during India’s home and away matches for several years, may not be included in IPL 2020 too, which is now expected to begin from April 15, instead of March 29 because of the global disruption of coronavirus.

The decision was mentioned because the first ODI in Dharamsala got washed out. According to reports, Sanjay Manjrekar was not in Dharamsala while all the other BCCI panel commentators, including Sunil Gavaskar, L Sivaramakrishnan, and Murali Kartik were present.

BCCI is not satisfied

It looks, the BCCI is not too impressed with his services in recent times. “Maybe he will be left out from the IPL panel too. At this stage, it is not on top of our minds. But the fact is they are not happy with his work,” said the sources.

Sanjay Manjrekar drove himself under controversies since last year because of his rude comments on cricketers and his colleagues. The first heavy controversy happened in the World Cup when he mentioned Ravindra Jadeja as a ‘bits and pieces’ cricketer. Following, he was involved in an on-air heated up debate with fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle. Even though he apologized for the same, but the cricket fans were already fed up with him. Now, it’s up to BCCI to decide the fate of the former cricketer and have him on board if they feel necessary.

Although it is true to some extent that Manjrekar has separate opinions like no other commentator in the world, but it is also a fact that he is one of the go-to-guys when it comes to cricket commentary and panel discussions.
