The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) appointed Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh as members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. If all goes well, Sunil Joshi will become a new chairman of selectors replacing MSK Prasad.

According to the sources, the former India left-arm spinner will take over as the chairman of the men’s selection committee, which will have a second face in former India fast bowler Harvinder Singh.

The Cricket Advisory Committee, led by Madan Lal interviewed five candidates – Venkatesh Prasad, Rajesh Chauhan, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Sunil Joshi, and Harvinder Singh- at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. As per the reports, the committee was fascinated with Joshi’s straight-forward attitude and recommended his name for the chairman of the elector’s position.
Not just that, as per the BCCI standards, the most senior member on the selection panel, based on the number of Test caps, will become the chairman. Joshi is the senior-most member, having played 15 Tests, and hence the CAC has recommended the BCCI that he should become the new chairman of selectors.
A new role
Joshi and Harvinder will join the trio of Sarandeep Singh, Devang Gandhi and Jatin Paranjape in the new panel whose first duty will be to pick the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series at home against Proteas, which will be played between March 12 and 18.
Joshi will take over as chairman of selectors with new challenges that are at hand. He is looking forward to doing’ everything in his role’ to bring everyone on the same page for the betterment of Indian cricket.
“I know there are a lot of challenges. I have to take up the job formally first and see how best I can get the group along. I will do everything in my capacity to ensure that the team management and committee members are on the same page for the betterment of Indian cricket,” said Sunil Joshi, the newly-elected chairman of selectors.
A decision on Dhoni
Apart from the recent performance of Team India, another problem that will bother Joshi is to make a decision on Dhoni’s puzzle.
The former Indian skipper hasn’t played an international game since the 2019 World Cup but he stands at queue as a contender in the T20 World Cup is concerned.
Having Dhoni’s issue looked as both sensitive and emotional, the CAC needed someone who had a clear-cut stand towards the problem and was able to make prompt decisions.
