Congress Leader P. Chidambaram to Army Chief: You Head Army, Mind Your Own Business

Congress leader P Chidambaram lashed out at Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat for his remarks on CAA protests by students in Uttar Pradesh.

During a speech, when asked about his comments on the CAA protests, Rawat remarked at an event in Delhi on Thursday: “As we are witnessing in a large number of universities and colleges, students the way they are leading masses and crowds to carry out arson and violence in cities and towns. This is not leadership.” He also said that true leaders lead people in the right direction.

The statement made by the General sparked outrage in the Opposition with many coming out and reminding him of his office limitations. Former Army chief VK Singh defended General Rawat and asked the Opposition to not politicise everything.

While inaugurating the “Save India Save Constitution” march organised by Congress in Trivandrum, Chidambaram said it was a disgrace that the BJP government was now employing the Army and state police heads to oppose students who were protesting under their democratic right.

“Let me appeal to General Rawat,” Chidambaram said. “You head the Army and mind your business. What politicians will do, politicians will do. It is not the business of the Army to tell politicians what we should do, just as it is not our business to tell you how to fight a war.”, he continued.
