The Chennai based Arthi Arun held our colors high in the game of powerlifting hosted in Canada. She Bagged 5 gold medals in the Commonwealth Powerlifting and Bench Press Championship.
Five gold medals for Arthi
Arthi bagged five gold medals in 72 kg category at Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships. Arathi is also an Asian Powerlifting Gold Medallist and National Champion. All together 28 Indians took part in this event that began on September 15 and ended on September 21. Arthi, a surgeon by profession and a mother of two children received a grand welcome at the airport.
“I am the only woman who has taken part in both the Asian platform and Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship. It is a very proud thing for me to do so,” Arthi told.
Requires support from government and the people
She said she required to support for her achievements. Arun said she even sent a mail to the Centre and State governments, requesting a reward and some appreciation.
“After sending my email. They replied to me saying they will look into the matter but till now nobody has replied to me,” she said.
“After success, I expected a lot of appreciation and support but I was not appreciated and was not given much support”
However, Arun believes that the fire in her is not going to hold her and will keep on competing in the World Championship.
“I will not stop, I am going to participate in the World Championship that is going to come in South Africa but if I am receiving support from the government that will be an added reward to me and I will really appreciate it, she said.
