However, the Indian captain addressed the media, and it looks his focus has now turned to Pakistan immediately after the team’s match was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Thursday.
Kohli on India’s confidence Vs. Pakistan
For the Sunday’s epic encounter, Virat Kohli said his team is packed with confidence and ready to take the challenge in Old Trafford. “We’re playing some good cricket so we’re not too worried about where we stand. Having two wins gives you that extra confidence,” said Kohli. “For Sunday, we know we’re there when it comes to the mindset. Just about going out there and having a game plan, executing it.”
The two Asian giants hardly play outside of major tournaments, this clash would be one hell of a showdown with fans of both teams eagerly awaiting the start of the game. India in the last two games has beaten Pakistan in the Asia Cup in 2018, while Pakistan on the other side has beaten their arch-rivals in the final of the Champions Trophy in England in 2017.
“As soon as you enter the field, it’s calm and relaxed. The atmosphere from the outside, for the first time, it’s a bit intimidating, but we’ll look to execute well. Taking down Pakistan will be a challenge
The India team have started the Tournament with two important wins against South Africa and Australia before their match against New Zealand at Trent Bridge was abandoned. Pakistan on other hands has found themselves difficult beating the hosts England but losing to Australia and West Indies is a grave concern and have a lot of homework to do.
On asking about Shikar Dhawan’s condition, Kohli acknowledged “Shikhar will be in a plaster for a couple of weeks, we’ll assess and see. Hopefully, he’ll be available for the latter half and the semi-finals. He’s motivated, we wanted to keep him back.”
