The Indian captain is just 57 runs away to conquer a yet another world record in his career. Virat Kohli has the chance to become the fastest cricketer to reach 11,000 runs mark in one-day internationals. He currently has 10943 runs in 221 innings and has already conquered the record for fastest 10000 ODI runs.
The Fastest to reach 11,000 runs
Kohli is 57 runs short to become third Indian and ninth overall to score 11,000 runs. He is all set to beat the Master Blaster record as for now Sachin Tendulkar is the fastest cricketer to have 11,000 runs in 276 innings. Next to him is the former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting who reached the milestone in 286 innings and Sourav Ganguly in 288 innings.
At the meantime, on his way to breaking records, Kohli will also surpass Yuvraj Singh on the list of most runs scored by an Indian in the Worl Cup. The right-hander currently has 687 runs in 19 innings including two centuries and two half-centuries.
9th Highest run in the world
In the overall numbers, Kohli stands in the 9th spot as all the players above have retired. Leading from the front Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list with 18,426 ODI runs, followed by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (14,234), Ponting (13,704), Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430), Mahela Jayawardene (12,650), Inzamam-ul-Haq (11,739), Jacques Kallis (11,579) and Ganguly (11,363).
In today’s clash against New Zealand, the rain has almost washed away the game and it will be the 4th time in the tournament in Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
If Kohli was able to score a hundred today, he would have joined the likes of Virender Sehwag and Ricky Ponting in holding the record for most centuries against New Zealand with 6. But it looks Mr. Best Batsman in the world will have to wait furthermore to get this milestone.
