The rain god is playing Hide and seek in the Trent Bridge, Nottingham. India and New Zealand are moving towards another washout. This will be the fourth game in the tournament to end without a result if the match is called off later in the day. Such an event will harm India more than New Zealand.
Rain Rain Go away, Let the teams play their way
The Kiwis are at top of the points table with three wins which will further leave them needing just two more wins from the last five matches to advance. They have had three wins out of three so far which was against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. But, they are yet to face a team strong enough to challenge their supremacy. India is going to be New Zealand’s first real test, a match that will show the Kiwis’ strengths and weakness. The men in blue have defeated New Zealand in six out of their last eight ODIs.
On the other hand, for India, who have played and won two games, have justified the ‘favorite’ tag by defeating South Africa and Australia. Another washout, therefore, can’t be ruled out as the team is in an ominous form. Being 4th in the table, the men in blue will not accept the splitting of the points.
Appeal for a reserve day
Earlier Bangladesh coach was frustrated about the matches being called off due to rain in the Tournament. He said, “We put men on the moon so why can’t we have a reserve day?” “I know that it would have been difficult, but we have got quite a lot of time in between games, and if we have got to travel a day later, then so be it.”
ICC’s outgoing Chief Executive Dave Richardson said in a statement.“Factoring in a reserve day for every match at the World Cup would significantly increase the length of the tournament and practically would be extremely complex to deliver. There is also no guarantee that the reserve day would be free from rain either.”
