Yuvraj Singh known for his dazzling performance with bat and the ball has given a lot of things to the Indian cricket team. The hero of the both 2007 and 2011 World cup had earned himself a lot of respect being a cricketer as well as a human being. On an emotional event, Punjab left-hander brought the curtains down on his decorated cricket career as he announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effects. However, there was one question whose answer revealed about the latter stages of the great all-rounder’s career.
Yuvraj’s Big Reveal
Yuvraj Singh in his retirement press conference was asked whether he too wanted a farewell match similar to what his former teammate Ashish Nehra got. The 37-year denied and said no one asked him a farewell match and neither did he ask anyone to let him have one.
On an interesting note, Yuvi also said that when he failed the yo-yo test, he was told to seek a farewell match and retire. He desired to get into the Indian team only if he clears the yo-yo test and didn’t seek a farewell match.
His statement is raising many eyebrows
This statement raised many eyebrows, with a question in everyone’s mind, who would have told this to Yuvi? Is it the coach Ravi Shastri, or the Captain Virat Kohli himself, or is it someone else from the board. Earlier at a press conference, Shastri made a statement on YO-YO test. He said that his team has a simple rule, ‘if you fail, you sail’ regarding the fitness test.
Yuvraj had failed the yo-yo test in 2017 and therefore, became disqualified for the Indian team. However, he managed to clear the test some weeks later but was never recalled to the side. The fact that he was told to seek a farewell match and retire suggests that whoever gave this advice didn’t think him good enough to play in the future.
A week ago Yuvraj had made a request to the BCCI to let him play the domestic games in the overseas, as anyways he was not playing for his country. But according to the board’s rules and regulations, he couldn’t do that, because he was an active player in the BCCI list. It is most possible that he is looking for overseas calls for playing domestic cricket. However, still, it would be interesting to know who told Yuvraj to end his career.
