Virat Kohli’s Wax Statue Revealed At Lord’s To Mark The Launch Of ICC 2019 World Cup

Renowned wax museum Madame Tussauds on Wednesday revealed a wax statue of Indian captain Virat Kohli at Lord’s Cricket Ground to mark the launch of the ICC World Cup 2019. According to the report, the wax statue of one of the world’s best batsmen will be on display at Madame Tussauds from Thursday until July 15 at the museum for the duration of the tournament.

It looks like the statue is dressed in the official Indian kit as well as shoes and gloves donated by the sportsman himself. From Thursday onwards, Kohli will sit alongside legends such as Usain Bolt, Sir Mo Farah, and fellow Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar.

General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, Steve Davies said, “Cricket fever is set to sweep the nation in the coming weeks so what better way to unveil our new figure of Virat Kohli than with the help of our neighbors at Lord’s. And, we hope that cricket fans will enjoy not only watching their hero on the pitch but taking to the crease with him here at Madame Tussauds London.”

Head of Retail & Tours at Lord’s Cricket Ground,  Tarah Cunynghame said, “Lord’s is the perfect backdrop to reveal this fantastic figure of Virat Kohli on the eve of the Cricket World Cup. The anticipation of the exciting summer of cricket has already started, with thousands of visitors coming to the Ground and enjoying a tour of Lord’s and around the MCC Museum. The figure of the famous batsman will delight any cricket fans visiting Madame Tussauds London.”

On Wednesday evening, the Indin skipper was present at the London Mall in the curtain-raiser ceremony. “It’s lovely to be here. We have such a huge fan base in England. The number of people traveling from home as well. It’s great to see at every stadium we play at, at least 50 percent of the crowd is Indian fans. For us, that’s a thing of pressure but a thing of pride as well. Hopefully, we have got to use to the crowd support to our advantage,” said Kohli. India will kick start their World Cup 2019 campaign against South Africa on June 5 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. On the other side, England, the host nation and the number-one ranked ODI team, will kick off the proceedings at the Oval Today afternoon against South Africa.
